Not use to reading these images so I wasn't sure whether it was 'u' for unmarried or a ditto mark. Could she have lied about being widowed?

Thanks for everything. I have found a Maey Elizabeth Harris on the 1851 census she's a servant in Wimbledon. Wrong place of birth but if you look at the image they have put 'ditto' . Could be a mistake!!

Eeerm .... yep ! born about right time and in Aston ! Wonder WHY she is changing her name back to Mansfield ? There are two possible Deaths for William Bagshaw: Deaths Mar 1864 Bagshaw William Shardlow 7b 281 and Deaths Dec 1874 Bagshaw William 73 Derby 7b 341 1st one is correct Reg district ... 2nd one is correct age ! On the 1861 census there is an Almeria Mansfield as a Servant

She could have been a servant .... and they COULD have put 'ditto' under their surname when completing the details. I'm STILL searching for her ... but keep finding other info !!!!! sorry ! The 1841 census states that ALL the Mansfield's were born in Derbyshire ................. and that Michael Harris aged 20 was born in Scotland/Ireland or Foreign parts. Elaine ;-)

No both of their ages are very clear, which I know is unusual

I can't make out the initial of the person who registered his birth, just the name Johnson, but they were the occupier at 5 Poplar Street Derby

It's possible that the death you found for Mary Elizabeth in 1870 is YOUR's. I think she is more likely to have lied on her marriage cert to William, with him only being 22, she took a few years of her age !!! .... I suspect she was actually 29 ... is there any way you could be mis reading the age ?.... is it smudged/faded... by any small chance ! Also looks as if yes, she did have another daughter who may also have died ...! Elaine :-)

His birth was registered on 21/3/1860 and it says mothers name Mary Elizabeth Johnson late Harris formerley Mansfield

Have you got her son's birth cert ???? b 1860 ? It should say if Mum is already deceased ... father should have registered birth. Or Mum could have registered birth - if so, what date was the birth actually registered (not his date of birth) - we then know she was still alive on that date. Mum MAY have died some weeks later of Perperial Fever (sp) ... many new mum's did back then ... :-( Elaine ;-)
