Hi Lesley, Thank you for your very kind offer. I would like to find a Cath(e)rine ARNOLD born 1790-1792 in Fawley, Hampshire in the 1851 or 1861 Census. I have her aged 79 and a spinster in Southampton in 1871 and her death in 1873 in Southampton aged 83. It would be great to know where she was and who she was with in 1851-61. Many thanks for any help, Jeff |

Hi Lesley. Very kind of you to offer help. We are a rarified branch of the Houghton family fron Cheshire/Lancashire - a single line back to Sarah Houghton b. circa 1823 in Appleton who had an illigitimate son William Houghton b.1843. He was raised by his grand parents as shown in the 1851census. We have found her later aged 58 (1881 census) living with her son in Warrington with the name Sarah Rowland and have a death certificate 1898 showing her as widow of James Rowland Journeyman Blacksmith. Sarah had a brother Joseph b.circa1813and her parents were WilliamHoughton b.circa 1791 Stonemason and Mary b.circa 1781There are a number of things we are struggling with and if you can help with any of them we would be eternally grateful.1.Marriage of Sarah to James Rowland and were there any more children.2.Did Sarah have any other siblings 3. Did Joseph marry and were there any issue. We have had no success with the 1841 census. I hope this is not too much info all at once but we have reached a dead end. many thanks Sue and Ed |
