Hi again Tracy, ah yes, that does sound familiar............... so you have Dorothy's marriage certificate, but no fathers name is listed..... i would imagine if it was the case that she didn't know her fathers name, she couldn't name him when she was married herself, and 99 % sure that if you found the birth certificate, it would also have no father listed, esp if this solicitor was married to someone else !!! don't think baptism records are going to be much use to you either, but one thing you could try is bastardy bonds..... they are usually kept at local records offices, and i believe its like a CSA type thing concerning unmarried mothers, they usually name the father if he is contributing to the childs upkeep. worth a try, eh? Tracy, yes you could ring them or do they have a website? they might take email enquiries too, or site will tell you if they will do look ups for you, most of them do !!! they might charge you to do it, but if you do have a relative happy to go for you even better !!! it might be worth getting them to check baptisms too, you never know !!! good luck xxxxxx Jx |

Linda.. am struggling !!! i've been looking for these 3 together , is this correct?? also in the 1841, it doesn't give birthplace, only civil parish that they are in, making it more difficult !! have seen Joseph was in Backworth / Buckworth after 1871, which parish would this be in? or do you know which parish they should be in? have tried all the spelling of Grey too :o((( Jx |

Hi Jane, Yes they should be together Mother and two Sons. Everything to do with them is Northumberland. I do have them in 1851 living in Witton Gilbert, County Durham, by then Mary had remarried and her name was Doole. By 1861 Joseph had returned to his birthplace of Seghill Northumberland and married. Really strange as I can't find any records about them. Many thanks for looking for me. Linda |

Michael, you wouldn't believe how common David Humphreys is in Wales, lol have had a look for them in both Wales & Shropshire, but can't pinpoint them yet......... am struggling to find Wrexham at all........ Clwyd isn't one of the counties listed, have the likes of Carmarthen, Monmouthshire, Flintshire, Cardiganshire, Pembrokeshire etc, do you know which one Wrexham would be under??? will have another look if you do...... Thanks for looking for Humphreys for me Jane, I suppose Humphreys is a bit like Smith in England, I'm not knowledgeable about Wales at all, all i know is Wrexham is in North East Wales.David is proving very ellusive he's shown as born in Wales His children were born in Staffs and he ended up living in East London. Appreciate your looking for me though. All the best Regards Michael Jane iv'e just seen that Wrexham came under Denbighshire,Flintshire also came under Denbighshire, Michael |
