So we have Sue! Sorry, I get carried away when I start on this, and at least on here I don't need to apologise for my strange taste in reading materials!! Got Milnes in mine and think some are from Pitsligo way, and I've got the Peathill index as well - would any of them be buried in there?

No Sue, I'm in Ardersier, near Inverness. Can't get to Aberdeen often enough but going this month and hoping to meet Lesley from your area, Keith! I'm with you on the Libraries, Sue - lock me in!! Need to find some 1900's onwards now though so next time I'm in Aberdeen I'm going to go to St Nicholas House. Apparently they have all burial records for Aberdeen-shire - found that out from a Canadian couple distantly related to hubby's lot - they went there and found several little gems, then went to the Family history shop and found they were speaking to another relative!

Elgin Library will have stuff but there was stuff on that area - a lot of it - at the history fair in Fochabers. I concentrated on Aberdeen stuff and spent time speaking to the Inverness ones as well so didn't take much notice of info on Elgin. But look up Moray Heritage i think it is on google, if that soesn't get you on to the froup let me know, I have website written down. Also there's a library index for Moray newspapers - need to check my emails for that address. If anyone's going to York fair, Aberdeen Family history group will be there - if they don't have the answers they will do their best to find out.

Woody do you stay in Aberdeen? My Mennies were all crofters lived in the same place for years,Braicklay crofts ,Brainjohn.I think my grandad was the last Mennie brought up there in the 1920s. My Mennies have strong connections with Littlejohn from Fyvie and the Milnes from New Pistligo. It is amazing what you can find out in the library..Ellon is very good,It has parish records all the census, igi and loads of family history books.i could spend all day in there. Sue x

No, John Knox is in Old Aberdeen. Went to cemetery as well, just off the Mounthooly roundabout - amazing to think over 100 years ago there was a smallpox hospital where that roundabout is

I think I have a few Ellon way, and of course they will have info on the surrounds as well. We tend to forget the libraries and yet who better for this info! I lived in Inverness for 38 years and only discovered last Sunday how much info they have there - apparently, there are rooms dedicated to records of the past. have got some Skye ones so will look there but my husband's lot are all Banff or Aberdeen and shires and so many more of them! His Methlick ones are all Moirs or married to's and some of them in Tarves as well. Mind you, got loads of them - could do a tree on them alone! I've got the Tarves booklet and found several of them there, and also another one about life in Tarves but only skimmed through that one.

No Keith, all we've got on her is the death date on the headstone (John Knox) and the rest of the details on it. Also in 1841 got her on the census next door in Gerrard St to John Troup and Eliz Allen, but think you've got that. Found Alexander Troup on the 1841 Census working in Forgue - think I gave you those details? if you haven't got that let me know and I'll look it up, think I've got it in your FTM file

Alexander, 23/8/1855, 41, Labourer, 2 Park lane, Abdn, d.29/8/1855 If this one is yours, then the death cert will show details of all his children and whether they're alive or not - lots of info on all the 1855 certs James, 29/111841, 35, Joiner, Abdn, 17/12/1841 Mrs, 31/12/1839, 50, Abdn, 3/1/1840 - (several where just Mrs.!) None in book 3 David Ruxton Mennie, 16/3/1882, 20yrs, Factory, res. 30 Link St, Aberdeen, died same day That last one could have been an accident - if so then bet there's a story in the paper! Central Library in Aberdeen have all the Abdn Journal on Fiche - that's where I found Keith's info. Of course, these are only the ones who died there - if they were discharged then that should be in the Archives in Grampian Health Bd
