Hi Sandra A gentleman is listed as - a member of the gentry , a descendant from an aristocratic family. Have just found this though as another possibility GARTHMAN -1. Yardsman or herdsman, 2. Responsible for the upkeep of a garth, a dam built in a river to catch fish, Owner or worker of a fish trap. Although it would be fabulous to claim a gentleman it could well be the second option....unfortunately!! Cathy |

Hi, A compositor is someone who, in pre-computer days, set the type for books and newspapers. Could it say 'gentleman'? My gggranfather was described as this but he was actually a master butcher. A 'master' anything is someone who also employs others. Best wishes, Caroline |

Hi Gerry A bricksetter as such is not listed only a Brickburner - a brickmaker who used a kiln to make bricks and a Brickman - a bricklayer I would have though a bricksetter was along the same lines as a bricklayer Hope this helps Cathy |
