Hi Karen I would really appreciate any help you can give me on my Scottish ancestors: i sent of for the marriage details for my GGGG Granparents hoping it would give me the parents names but i received only the Banns. John Lindsay and Elisabeth Barrie married 1849 in Glencorse, Midlothian, they had a son James born c1850 and then moved down to England between 1851 - 1854, and lastly my other GGGG grandmother, Vere Oswald c1825 Lochgelly, her death cert states that her parents were Alexander Oswald and Mary Black, but i haven't been able to find a birth for Vere, or any reference for her in 1841. Dear Karen, I recently bought the marriage certificate of my g x 3 grandparents James Hood/wood and Mary McIntyre (1851) and it showed that the witnesses to their marriage were William Hood and Alech McIntyre. I was wondering if they were their fathers....a long shot but it might pay off! I noticed that an 1841 census that you kindly provided showed James living with an older William and I wondered if this was my family. I know that the information provided in 1841 is limited but would you be able to tell me what occupation William senior was? Also would it be possible to follow the family through to the 1851 census. On his marriage certificate in September 1851, Jame’s occupation is recorded as a slater and his address is No 38 North Broadford. They were married in Old Machar, Aberdeenshire (both of this parish). Thank you very much for looking at my request. I will reply as soon as I am able.
