Hi Gary Here is Louisa's marriage: Surname: HORSTED Given Names: Louisa Event: M Spouse Surname: DAVENPORT Spouse Gvn Names: Henry Year: 1857 Reg Number: 3529 And her death: Surname: DAVENPORT Given Names: Louisa Event: D Father: Horsted Wm Mother: Elizth TURNBULL Age: 68 Death Place: Macarthur Year: 1895 Reg. Number: 2376 I can't see any children to Henry and Louisa. There is an arrival in Victoria of a Louisa HORSTEAD aged 30 in 1852 aboard 'Helen', with 14 year old Benjamin HORSTEAD. Her age is out by 5 yrs by her death reg but fits your est birth year of 1822. Hopefully the Benjamin might be a lead. I can't see any other records that come even close. Tried NSW as well. This might be her husband's death (quite a bit younger - might explain why she put her age down by 5 years, lol) Surname: DAVENPORT Given Names: Henry Event: D Father: William Mother: Lucy HOR Age: 49 Death Place: BELFAST Year: 1883 Reg Number: 4169 There was an inquest (416). Hy was a farmer; cause of death 'fall off dray'. Following up on Benjamin: Surname: HORSTED Given Names: Benjamin Event: M Spouse Surname: CHAPMAN Spouse Gvn Names: Mary Year: 1862 Reg Number: 3444 (NB No HORSTEAD's found, only HORSTEDs) Benjamin and Mary lived in the Port Fairy area (and several of their 11 childen settled there after marriage); eldest chn named Elizabeth and William... Unfortunately his death is not much help, apart from the Port Fairy link (age fits immigration above though): Surname: HORSTED Given Names: Benjamin Event: D Father: Unknown Mother: Unknown UNKNOWN Age: 78 Death Place: Pt Fairy Year: 1916 Reg. Number: 15728 This is the only other early HORSTED marriage: Surname: HORSTED Given Names: Amy Priscilla Event: M Spouse Surname: BARRATT Spouse Gvn Names: Thomas Year: 1862 Reg Number: 2489 Not sure how Amy fits in; can't find chn or her death. I hope this gives you some new leads! Let me know if I can help further. Cheers Cherilyn PS If not her brother/nephew, could Benjamin be her son? If she was 16...? There is a birth reg for Benjamin HORSTED in Hendon, Middlesex, Jun qu 1838 (3/127). Might be a lead for the 1841 census...? |

Hi Natalie Well this turned out to be a really interesting one! Maybe you know that Richard Ash KINGSFORD married in Bridge, Kent before he came to Brisbane...to Sarah SOUTHERDEN (Dec qu 1851, 5/121). They had at least one child before they emigrated: Richard Alfred, b. Bridge Sep qu 1852 (2a/453). They had 3 daughters in Queensland. 1857/B000399 Kingsford Catherine Mary 1859/B000844 Kingsford Emily Jane 1861/BA00656 Kingsford Caroline Elizabeth Son Richard Alfred married Emily HENNESSEY in 1876 (reg B005105). They had 5 children in Qld (1877-1885). Daughter Catherine Mary married William Charles SMITH in 1878 (reg B006035). They had 7 children in Qld (1879-1897). This is where it gets really good - maybe you knew this but...their youngest son Charles Edward Kingsford (b. 1897) was THE Charles Kingsford-Smith who was an Australian aviation pioneer (he was knighted in 1932)!!! All Catherine and Wm's children had the 3rd given name Kingsford, not sure if they all hyphenated it later. How about that!? Can't find anything on Emily but Caroline Elizabeth married William Henry SWALLOW (b. 1856 Sandridge Vic) in Victoria in 1885 (reg 1866). They had 1 son in Victoria (1886) and a further 5 children in Qld (1889-1898). This is Richard's death: Surname: Kingsford Given name(s): Richard Ash Father: John Kingsford Mother: Mary Walker Year of death: 1902 Reg: C000603 And John's death: Surname: Kingsford Given name(s): John Father: John Kingsford Mother: Mary Ann Walker Year of death: 1905 Reg: B005890 No death found for Sarah up to 1914. No clear marriage or children for John, sorry. Hope this gives you some good leads and new info. Let me know if you need more on the children's children. Cheers Cherilyn |

Hi Abigail Jane Edwards WEST married William KENNEY (also registered as Williams HENRY) in Macleay River in 1863 (reg 2113). I cannot find a death for her first husband Frederick WEST (they married in Church of England, Clarence River in 1849). Only appears to be the one child Mary (b. 1851, mother shown as June not Jane). William and Jane had 12 children, born first in Macleay River and then later Bellinger River. I have found births for 11, marriages for 12 and deaths for 6. Let me know if you need these. The births are registered variously as KENNY, KENNEY, KINNEY and KINNY! Most of the marriages are KINNY. I think I have the death of William in Kogarah in 1918 aged 91, reg 13774 (as KINNY), parents not stated unfortunately, but hopefully the age fits. Looks like his wife too died in Kogarah, in 1904 (as Jane E KINNY), daughter of William and Magdelene (reg 9707). Jane's death details fit with early NSW births to a William and Magdein YABSLEY but Jane was not born in NSW - and I can't find their arrival, sorry. William YABSLEY died in Casino, NSW in 1880 (reg 9884) son of John & Agnes. Magdelen died in Casino in 1896 (reg 13200), parents unknown. Hope this gives you some new leads. Let me know if you need more on the children. Cheers Cherilyn |

Hi Hoping you can help me out. First of all thank you for your very kind offer. My ancestor arrived in Australia from Scotland and married in 1863. Prior to that his wife had been married to a Frederick West. They were married in 1849. I am trying to find out his parents details and also what happened to him. I can find no death information in NSW. Hoping that finding his parents details will help me trace him down (would like to confirm what had happened so that I can confirm 2nd marriage was legit.) Her name was Jane Edwards Yabsley. They were married in the Richmond River area. My ancestor's name was William Kinny (not sure if that will help). Also if Jane and Fred had any children besides Mary Magdalene West would love to know. Many thanks in advance Abigail Pritt (nee Kinny) |

Hi Cherilyn, Thats fantastic! Thank you sooo much for all the information. I will have to digest it all now. Mary Paterson,s Parents were John King & Agnes Roberts Parents Robert & Isabella Paterson. Hi Ali The marriage was a bit tricky - it is registered under PATTISON (James to Elsie F BROWN in New Lambton in 1911, reg 1889). I notice from his death that his parents were Robert and Mary. Possible death of his mother: Reg/Year: 3362/1902 Surname: PATERSON Given name(s): MARY Father: JAMES Mother: ISABELLA Place of death: WALLSEND And his father: Reg/Year: 18368/1912 Surname: PATTISON Given name(s): ROBERT Father: JOHN K Mother: MARY E Place of death: WEST WALLSEND This looks like the family's arrival in Sydney, NSW as assisted Immigrants: SURNAME Firstname AGE VESSEL MONTH YEAR REEL PATERSON Agnes 3 Roslin Castle 1883 2142, 2494 PATERSON Isabella 1 Roslin Castle 1883 2142, 2494 PATERSON James 4 Roslin Castle 1883 2142, 2494 PATERSON Mary 25 Roslin Castle 1883 2142, 2494 PATERSON Robert 25 Roslin Castle 1883 2142, 2494 You can order a copy from www*records*nsw*gov*au Looks like they had another daughter, Mary, in 1886 (reg 29902) in Newcastle. There are several births in Leichhardt 1892-1899 as PATTISON; not sure if it is them though. Likely marriage for Robert & Mary's daughter Mary to Wm J HARDEN in 1904 in West Wallsend as PATTISON (reg 7642); she died in 1967 in Newcastle (reg 15912). Possible marriage for Isabella to Chas H BENNETT in 1914 in Newcastle (reg 8431). Births are not yet publicly available after 1907, sorry. There is a death for Jas & Elsie's son William James in 1958 (reg as PATTISON) in Wallsend NSW (reg 5273). Possible marriage for him (as PATTISON) to Lois Theodocia HAFEY in 1941 (reg 5052) in Newcastle. Possible marriage for daughter Mary to Arthur James LORD in 1939 (reg 2631) as Mary Elsie PATTISON in West Wallsend. James & Elsie's marriage cert looks like a good next step if you would like to take it further. :-) By the way, Elsie died in 1969 in Wallsend (as PATERSON), daughter of George and Mary (reg 32360). Possible birth for her in Lambton NSW in 1890 (reg 18025). Cheers Cherilyn PS PAULA - did I miss something?! |

Hi Jules Sorry but there are no VILLUS' at all in NSW deaths in or around that period. :-( Perhaps the surname was spelt differently? Happy hunting Cherilyn PS There is a WWI enlistment for a Charles Victor BROSTER, alias Harry WATTS, in 1915 aged 18 years and 2 months. He was born in Walsall, Staffordshire. He had a sister named Mrs Woolley of Chermside. He signed his original papers as Harry Watts, this was in Queensland. He was Roman Catholic. He assumed the name Charles Victor BROSTER in May 1918. His wife's name was Helene. Does any of this sound like it might be him??? |

Hi Gloria There is a birth in Tamworth, NSW of Dorothy N McKERROW in 1902, to Kenneth McKERROW and Edith Ada DAWSON (reg 36264). No McKEROWs at all. Looks like this Dorothy married Benjamin DONALDSON in Tamworth in 1933 (reg 13328). No death found for her in NSW up to 1976. There are also several McKERROW families in Victoria in the same period, a few in WA after 1910, and none in Queensland. But no births of a Dorothy, except the one above. (I am assuming it was her birth that was c1900, not the parents births!) Hoping this is the right person. Cheers Cherilyn |

Hi Karen Sorry no marriage in WA for John FUDGE. He was 72 when he died in 1885 so seems more likely he married before he came over, or perhaps not at all. There are no FUDGE births in WA for that period either. Good luck, sorry I can't help. Cherilyn |
