Looking for any information or relatives of the Proctor family of Bedlington. Thomas Bowen m Sarah Ann Gelear 1907 at Morpeth reg office; she stated her father was Charles Gelear - can't find a trace however Sarah's death cert in 1915 gives her brother as Charles Proctor. Full Proctor family incl Charles (head) Charles jnr, Sarah Ann at Walker Terrace Bedlington 1891 & 1901. Any Bedlington Proctors out there to help? Sarah Ann's children were Edward Bowen (m Hilda, b Seaham) William (ptnr of M E Watts, 2 children George & brian, Seaham) and Liza (poss Elizabeth?)

Researching my grandfather who was charles william gillear proctor born 1905, father also named charles, mother Margaret jane. He was a boxer known as the bedlington terrier 1924-1940, and a miner who worked across several collieries at bates, crofton, hartford and choppington. His mother went round the collieries with a grocery cart.

There seems to be crossing between Galear and proctor
Some of the girls married as Galear but were reg as Proctor or the other way around
The parents don’t seem to have married but are Galear on the 1881 census and Proctor on the 1891 census
This is one of the births
Name: Mother's Maiden Surname: GALARE, ANN MARIA PROCTER GRO Reference: 1883 M Quarter in SUNDERLAND Volume 10A Page 606
It would seem that mum was mary Ann Proctor and she never married Charles Galear
He was the father though
Charles Galear Registration Year: 1867 Registration Quarter: Apr-May-Jun Registration district: Wolverhampton Parishes for this Registration District: View Ecclesiastical Parishes associated with this Registration District Inferred County: Staffordshire Volume: 6b Page: 514
He seems to have taken her name between 1881 and 1891

Thanks for your help. I now have a copy of the 1911 census and my grandfather the bedlington terrier is listed as Charles William proctor, son of Charles and Margaret Proctor. The reference to Gillier was in a news article from 'Sixtownships and Coal Mining Memories UK' so I assume its a mistake. I am now retired (health reasons) so have time to conduct further research. What I find making research difficult is that both of my grandparents Proctor and Hancock named the firstborn sons in each generation with the same name - makes it all rather difficult.
