MFG
As you are on Ancestry, did you also see the other family tree "Freda Wilson Family Tree" with 27 people attached? Her tree is not public.

Thought it was interesting as 1911 Census shows Joseph with a sister by that name ...naming tradition??

No I did'nt see that but may follow it up today and see if I can get any further along. It would be so very nice if his medal could be returned to the family.

Iv'e lots to do today soit will have to wait till later.

Re changing the service number. If I remember this correctly - I think regular soldiers had a short number which was eventually changed to the new longer number that was brought in so it matched with the new ‘recruits’.

Before anyone 'jumps', I realise the birth year doesn't tally with 1939, but..................the day and month DO

ErikaH

ErikaH Report 18 Oct 2024 14:01

There is a CLOSED record immediately below Doreen's entry on 1939 Register.............could well be a child (100 year rule)

Erika the medal was found on the Thames foreshore. The top bit was broken off where the ribbon goes but apart from that it was in good condition.

The death cert for Doreen could possibly unlock some of the ‘doors’. It will give her maiden name, and you could then look for the probable child. I know - obviously - the apparent difference in birth years, but that may be simply an error on someone’s part

You say he was in the Army from Sept 1914……….he would have been only FIFTEEN.

The Regiment was only founded in Sept 1914 in Bodmin

‘They’ say as per your OP - who are ‘they’,please?

They are the people who found the medal. I am a friend but have never met them only over the internet.
