My friend has just found a birth certificate of her brother George Watson born Horncastle dist 1949 she is presuming that he died as nothing was spoken about him when her mother and father was alive she is thinking he possibly died soon after where can I find information I have looked on bmd.

What was the birth month?

And MMN?

I presume you’ve found the registration to confirm the event!!

There is no birth registration in that district for the name George Watson after 1889

Has your friend found an actual certificate?

Do the details indicate that it was her brother, ie. they shared the same parents? Could it be a different relative?

Sadly, at that time, some families were advised to put a child into an institution to be cared for, if there was a physical or mental disability and some stayed there, possibly unvisited for the rest of their life.
Such a child would often not be mentioned by the family.

Without a few more details or clarification, it is difficult to help with common names.

She now says he possibly was born in Glasgow?

Tell her to look carefully at the certificate, if she has access.

Come back when you have factual info......or simply look yourself on Scotland's People website if the birth WAS in Glasgow.

The deaths of 23 males named George Watson (with George as the first name) were registered in Glasgow 1949-60.

Another 10 were registered in surrounding parts of Lanarkshire.

The mothers' maiden names are not transcribed in the basic free search.
There's no way of finding out the names without buying the certs.

There is a birth in 1949 in Camlachie and death of an infant in the same district

Go to Scotland’s People as PREVIOUSLY suggested and take a look. It isn’t a difficult site to use.

You - or your friend - will have to BUY certs for confirmation of details

But get your friend to give you ACCURATE info. Horncastle and Glasgow are not normally easily confused. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Death certs cost £12, ordered through Scotland's People.

Alternatively, for a death cert in that time frame, you can buy credits on SP (£7.50 for 30 credits ), and view an image of the original cert online for 6 credits - and print a copy if you wish.
