Hi

i have family line connection to John Phillips born 1805, who married Harriet Baggs.

i know they had 3 children Jesse born 1848, Charles born 1856, and i believe Ellen born 1854 . Ellen is my great grand mother, who married John Thoms in Basing.

Any information on if there was more children born to John and Harriet ? would be great..

I know Jessie and Charles went to the Falklands , and that Charles came back to England . any info on Charles is also appreciated.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards

Terry

ArgyllGran Report 18 Jun 2024 09:14

The 1861 and 1871 censuses showing Charles have been posted .
In 1881 he is a servant at an eating house in Potters Lane, Basingstoke, run by the Thatcher family.

Charles married Elizabeth Smith in 1882:

Charles Phillips
in the Hampshire, England, Church of England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1921
Name Charles Phillips
Gender Male
Marriage Age 25
Record Type Marriage
Birth Date abt 1857
Marriage Date 8 Apr 1882
Marriage Place Old Basing, Southampton, England
Residence Place Basing
Occupation Labourer
Spouse Elizabeth Smith
Father John Phillips

Charles and Elizabeth, with children, are in Eastleigh, Hants, on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 censuses.

They're in Chandlers Ford, Winchester, in 1921, with son Archibald.

Charles probably died in 1937, registered in Winchester RD.

Any journey to or from the Falklands must have been between one census and the next.

As far as I can see from all censuses, all Charles's children were born in Hampshire.
