Hi.I must first apologise for my lack of response to you all regarding the name Thissie. I have been ill for a few weeks now and not had the time to react.Since then my son has taken the said book to a bookbinder for restoration which is still ongoing. From memory, the book is a small item titled "My Friends Birthdays" It belonged to my G'Mother Annie Robinson(1874-1930) who I never knew. The inner page says it was given to her by Thissie Robinson who lived near Tow Law in Co.Durham.What relationship Thissie was to Annie I don't know.Annie's father,John,
had a sister Phyliis. Maybe it's a corruption of that?????

Once again my apologies for delays,Terry L.

Have you looked at BMD and census records to try to determine what the name might actually be?

Which side of your family does this relate to?

When you say an old family book. Do you mean something that was handwritten or something printed?

Who were the person's relatives?
Perhaps we can deduce something from census records.

What is the "old family book"?
Is it a family Bible, and therefore semi-official?

Please give us as much info as possible.

Could it be Tessie, with bad handwriting?
Short for Teresa?

ADDED:
A Google search suggests that Thessie (maybe Thissie with bad handwriting ??) can be a variant form of Tessie, or a diminutive of Teresa, Theresa, Theresia, Hortensia, or Ortensia.

One site suggests it's a Swedish name, meaning "queen of beauty" - but who knows?!

Have you googled? (First obvious step)
