Funeral of Mr Albert Schreiber

The remains of the late Mr Albert Schreiber, photographer of Wellington Street, Woolwich were interred in the Churchyard of St. Nicholas Church, Plumstead on Thursday afternoon last. The deceased who was but 31 years old was a native of Germany and lost two brothers in the Great War. He came to England some years back, and after an engagement with Mr Cobb, went into partnership with Mr Dutton.
The coffin was of polished oak and was covered with beautiful wreaths and crosses of white flowers. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Joseph Jordan, Vicar of Holy Trinity, of whose congregation the deceased was a member, and Mr F H Johnson was the funeral director.

Re ErikaH's suggested family of Browns in Woolwich:

Ancestry has Mary's middle initials as A J in 1891.

If that's the right family, the person who wrote on the photo obviously must be a child of one of the girls' siblings - and probably Edith.

The father Robert Wright Brown died in 1900, and in 1911 the mother Alice was living with unmarried Mary Ann Jane.

I don't suppose there's any indication of which girl is which?

ArgyllGran

ArgyllGran Report 15 May 2024 15:54

The photographer's name isn't much help after all.

From a Google search, they were in existence from at least 1855 until probably into the 1900's, but I can't find definite dates.

In June 1888 they were advertising in "The Photographic News" for "A young lady of good address for Reception-room duties. Experienced in Spotting and Mounting; must be able to Finish nicely. Preference given to one who can re-touch. Must also be able to attend to books. Send carte of self, reference and experience. Must be thoroughly practical"

Numerous unidentified photos online taken by Schreiber and Dutton

George Dutton was at the address in 1881 and 1891................not in 1901

He was at a different address in 1871, and hadn't yet taken up photography. His occ: was Forgeman

In 1881 Albert Schreiber, photographer, born Germany, was a lodger

What's the name of the photographer's studio?

Maybe we can narrow the timespan by when it was in business??

Of course, they might have had the photo taken while on holiday from somewhere else. Not a helpful thought!
