ErikaH Yes, I believe the children were living with Julia’s parents….no mention of Julia.
I’m sorry, I will remember this for future.
Yes, I am still trying to find info but only for Julia now.
I have info on the boys which I found last night, Both baptised in 1892, living at 20 Peartree Street, Holborn.
My reasoning for the initial query:
This Julia Stephens is the only one I can find with a birth date and place of birth which agree with other records.
I have had the thought for a while that she had either walked away or divorced her first husband. I’m wondering if this may be a factor for why there is absolutely zero record of her ever marrying Harry Baldock. She used his surname but there is no official record I can find and, believe me, I have spent hours and hours searching.
I can’t find a death in the name of Baldock or POOLEY for her either but Harry states he is a widower in 1911 when he is admitted to infirmary and subsequently dies.
Oh for a time machine so I could just go back and ask them!
Again, thank you so much for your help and I’m sorry if I am not giving the correct info, I still consider myself a novice at this.
Happy Christmas Caroline

"In 1891George and Edgar are living with a couple called Stevens in Holborn"
You say Julia'a parents were Richard and Hannah - so likely that they are living with their Stevens/Stephens grandparents

It would be helpful if you could C&P 1891 to save us having to try to identify the one to which you refer
At the very least, tell us where and when George was born…and his occupation.

In 1891, George and Edgar were living with a couple named Stevens in Holborn.
Divorce was unheard-of for all but the seriously wealthy. Couples usually just went their separate ways and started again with new spouses………..married or otherwise
|
Just discovered Julia and George had a son, George William born 19/08/1884. And Edgar Richard i13/12/1885
Explains why she was married at 17!

Goodness me don’t we open Pandoras box when we delve into our ancestors!
Have found JULIA ANN STEPHENS DOB: 24/09/1866 Born: Guildford, Surrey
Father is Richard Stephens Mother is Hannah Sibling is Lucy, DOB 16/08/1862 Old Windsor, Berks
Am happy with all details thus far but….seems Julia married GEORGE WILLIAM POOLEY at ALL SAINTS, NEWINGTON on 04/05/1884 Julia was only 17 years old.
On the 1891 & 1901 census, George is married to Elizabeth A. POOLEY
I can’t find any trace of her death.
How do I go about tracing a divorce?
Something must surely have happened between 1884 & 1891
It’s my almost last puzzle piece, any help would be amazing, thanks in advance.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS ALL
