My mum says winifred and Alfred separated but didn't divorce.

There may be more than one actress named Winifred Wynn.

Did Winifred and Albert separate?
That could account for her not being involved with the funeral arrangements.

They are at different addresses in 1939 - assuming this is the correct Albert:

I'm not sure about religion, my mum thinks my Gran went to a Catholic girls school but I have a photo of my Gran (winifreds daughter) at school and there was a boy in the picture so I don't think that's true

Well....so could be her? So....from memories passed down to my mum from my Nan .... winifred was a dancer on stage (no more info) I have a picture and my uncle has a few more of her standing on a stage with dance shoes on and fancy dresses....my Nan says one day she went to an arcade (not sure what that was back then...a shopping centre?) And she saw a girl who looked just like her and she ran home and told her mum (winifred) and she apparently locked her in s cupboard so my Nan was convinced she had a sister but I think that may have been just a fantasy. Winifred could well have kept her stage name I guess that would make sense.

I find the Buckingham Palace thing so strange....my uncle is actually convinced she had an affair with royalty haha the telegram says she was 59 years old but there is a story passed down that she worked there when she was younger and accidentally walked in on long George playing piano...again could be false.

In later years my Nan says winifred cut her face from all her photos...and winifred was buried in a common grave and nobody attended her funeral

All very strange

Just of interest what religion was Winifred if she followed one.?

If Winifred was a professional dancer known by her maiden name then it is quite likely that she carried on using it professionally.

Jink20 the 1939 has Winifred's birth date as 03 Feb 1895

This extract from the stage is dated 1931,Winnifred was married in 1926 so doubtful its her?

Winifred coud have been born in Ireland and left before any 1901&1911 census and she wouldnt be on a in-comming passenger list from there,

Could she have been reg as Winifred Katherine or Kate and just assumed the Kathleen.?

The letter from the bank suggests she had no part in the funeral arrangements for her husband. His sister had applied for whatever money was left in his account and been granted it 'to assist in the payment of the deceased's funeral expenses.' Winifred applied later, perhaps as his widow, and got told there was nothing left. May 1944

Jink that Winifred on stage is interesting...now my over active mind is saying my Winifred was a spy and took someone's identity ( too much coffee)

Several of the trees (16 on Ancestry) show a Post Office employment record for Winifred K Charman as a typist - but it's dated 1918, so obviously not the right person.

That's more likely to be the Winifred Kathleen Charman born in Croydon in 1900.

As always, some people put any old stuff on their trees and others blindly copy it.

The same with the trees giving Sarah as her mother - there's absolutely no proof.

I've searched for documents about the dancing and Williams acting and not found anything. I wonder if she made the actor bit up

If Winifred was a dancer and her father an actor is there any mention of them in The Stage available on British Newspsper Archive. ( don’t have time to the research at the moment)

Emma, as I asked previously, is that your tree on ancestry with the photos and the telegram from Buckingham Palace asking her to report for duty in the Stewards Room Pantry from S Haimes Comptroller of Supplys office.
There is also the letter from Westminster Bank stating they had received an application and had paid Mrs L J Wessell, sister of Mr A A Charman, the small credit balance left to assist with the funeral arrangements. There was no moneys or securities of any description left.

I wonder if the person who constructed the tree on FMP was aware of the telegram rather than having concrete proof.

If she was born in 1895, she would have been of an age to be marrying WW1 - ish. So many women married and lost husbands in the war, dipped out because there weren't the spare men around or married later, so perhaps not so surprising.
