Search with only the surname Redfearn, year of death 1984 (yes, I know she died 1983), and year of probate 1984.
That will produce two "Image Search Results" pages. Winifred is listed on page 2.

Redfearn, Winifred Mary, of 272 Findon Road, Worthing, died 28 October 1983. Probate Brighton 19 January.. £41508.

Well, the niece found out through visiting cousins, that her grandfather was cremated in Worthing but his ashes were scattered in Acton cemetery, London. She was surprised there wasn't even a marker to remember him.

As for her grandmother, I got the will & probate after it taking ages but there are no requests in the will regards her funeral requirements!

Sadly the niece has returned to the USA where she lives without finding out what happened to her but was grateful for my assistance and all you lovely people on here.

I forgot to say, apparently Winifred was staying with her son Victor in the days before she died.(In Watford)

You'd think she would want to be buried/ scattered in the same place as her husband, but first you have to work out why he was scattered in Acton.

Well that is the question names. The niece has just emalied me to say, that a daughter of Victor might have some info but she is away on holiday at the moment but will be in touch once she is back.

So watch this space, the mystery may still be solved ;-)

With regard to scattered ashes...
A crematorium where a friend's service was held has beautiful gardens, but no marked memorial plots.
What they do have though is a record in their office of where the various people's ashes were scattered. There are marker numbers on the perimter fence, so you might be told eg. Mary's ashes were placed in area 54, 3 feet in from the footpath.
They were really helpful when we called in there one day and printed out a site location for us, no charge.

Not everyone has their ashes scattered or buried in an official plot these days, nor have a memorial. We scattered Mum's ashes on a hillside she loved, the funeral home record might just say that they were returned to us. Her sister's were 'scattered' in her parent's grave, which we had to have an arrangment for, but I doubt there will be a record.
And my friend still has her partners ashes in her house.

Quite so, grannyfranny.
Many families now choose a place meaningful to them.
I know of extended family who chose to scatter a man's ashes at the mouth of a river, because he had been a boat builder at a nearby shipyard.

Sometimes internment of ashes are mentioned in a parish's burial records.

Some crematorium records show where ashes are to be interred, although this might be in relatively modern times. I know we were asked, when we collected my father-in-law's ashes from Hampshire in 2013.
