You don’t say where. If he was born in England or Wales the free website www.freebmd.org.uk is very useful. If he was Scots then you need Scotlands People.

Have you looked for him on the 1921 census (FMP) or the 1939 index. If he was alive and already in one of the services he would not appear in the 1939 index.

No birth on freebmd with that name in 1914, and nothing on 1921 census

What else do you know about him?

If perhaps he was Scottish -

??? maybe a possibility:

TINDALL
JOHN
mmn MCLEISH
M
1914
282 / 4 / 1412
St Andrew (Dundee)

Parents of that child:

TINDAL WILLIAM
MCLEISH JEMIMA
1910
282 / 2 / 240
St Mary [Dundee]

Could Jack actually be John. There is a John W Tindall registered in the last quarter of 1914 in Sunderland.

ErikaH Report 13 May 2023 17:15

The one born in Sunderland had DoB of 30th August

The Dundee child in 1921:

TINDALL JOHN
1921
M
6
282/3 53/ 11
St Andrew
Angus

Also in that household:

Jemima 32; William 32; William 10; Jemima 4.

Jemima junior married in 1945, and died in 1992, all in Dundee.
William junior died in 1984 in Dundee.
Jemima senior died in 1972 in Dundee.

Do you know of any place and year in connection with Jack, other than his birth?

Di

Di Report 13 May 2023 17:57

Thanks for the answers, sorry for delay in replying, I fell asleep on the sofa, I have no other information other than the date of Birth and a photo of him and his mum

I would say born in England if I had to stick my neck out as I have no scottish ancestors

The photo has written on the back - Baby Jack six months born Oct 17th (could be 19)
1914

If that's all it says, how do you know his surname was Tindall?

Do you have reason to think he's related to you?

Maybe his mum was just a friend who sent a photo of her baby to one of your relations.

Just to rule out the Dundee child -

he was born on 9 Nov 1914, according to trees on Ancestry.

Sorry, the photo says Great Grandma Tindall on the back as well. the photo is of a woman and a baby, and I do not (as far as I know ) have Tindall in my family, so as someone suggested, it may just be an unrealted photo in the box

Just a suggestion for a possible UK death - though of course he could have died anywhere in the world:

TINDALL, JOHN 1914
GRO Reference: DOR Q1/2002 in BURNLEY AND PENDLE (5821B) Reg B9D Entry Number 80

I wish I could add a photo of the writing on here

Assuming the woman holding him is great-grandma Tindall - unfortunately, that doesn't mean the child's name was Tindall.

Only one of his four gr-grandmothers would have the same surname as him.

Absolutely true ArgyllGran, this is the frustration of pieceing together your family, I dread to think how they will manage in the future with blended families

I think I will list this thread as answered

ErikaH Report 13 May 2023 19:25

1939 register has 7 males named Jack born 17.10.14 and 13 born 19.10.14

Those,of course, are the ones who lived until 1939 and whose subsequent deaths have been picked up

Thank you ErikaH I will look them up - much appreciated
