A salior, 1919 - 1922 ish in Bidefortd North Devon or maybe in Carlisle. I have a photo I believe he is my Grandfather, his son had the name James George Middleton Young, the Young is my Grandmothers maiden name. Can anyone recognise this information. My grandmother was born 1898 in Bideford North Devon. She had two children a girl born 1920 in Cartlisle, and a son born in Bideford, both in the workhouses one in Carlisle 1920, and 1922 Bideford . I believe they had the same father.

It is extremely unlikely that anyone connected would actually find your post. Your dates seem a bit off, unless the 1920 ish sailor is the younger man.
Have a look at Search/ search all members trees to see if anyone has the in their tree.
Use freebmd to find all their births and possible marriages. Are they on the 1939 register?
Have a free search on the 1921 census on Find My Past, but you will have too pay for downloads.

No birth on freebmd for James Young in Bideford
What was your grandmother’s name?
And her daughter’s forename? Was it Mabel?
|
If your grandmother was Florence Mary, the free search suggests she was alone in 1921
|
James George’s death registration shows his DoB to have been 1/6/1922
Birth registered as George J M**********************************************************

I take it that you mean that the photograph dates from 1919-22?

This is the only possible-sounding Middleton in Bideford in 1921;
James Joseph Middleton 1900 Birthplace: London, England Bideford Bideford Devon
NOTE: I am NOT saying he's your grandfather - just that he might be worth investigating further.
You'd have to pay to see the full details (occupation, crucially).
He's with Albert Wooldridge Lister 1884, Minnie Beatrice Lister 1883 (nee Hookham) , Betty Wooldridge Lister 1909, Derek Wooldridge Lister 1913, Frederick Wooldridge Lister 1920, and 11 others.
I think he's just a lodger or visitor . There's no obvious family relationship with the Listers or Hookhams - but I don't know who the other 11 people are. Albert (born Staffordshire) and Minnie (born Kings Norton area) married in Kings Norton RD in 1906, were in South Africa (Transvaal) around 1909 when Betty was born, and were in Birmingham in 1911, when Albert was manager of a manufacturing stationer's business. In 1920, at Frederick's baptism, Albert was a company director and they were living at 5 Park Mansions, Chapel Park Road, St Leonards-on-Sea, Hastings.

There are lots of WW1 service records for men named James Middleton - haven't worked through them all ! And there will be lots of others whose records haven't survived. Of course, he may not have joined up until after the end of the war. Or he may have been in the Merchant Navy - you don't say what sort of sailor he was.
