"....the bridegroom was Mr Edward George Benbow Newman, only son of Mr L G. Newman, the popular licensee of the " King William," Glastonbury, and of Mrs. Newman, and the bride was Miss Phyllis Kathleen Saunders, the only daughter of Mr. Saunders and the late Mrs. Saunders, of Tewkesbury. The bridegroom, who is employed on the mechanical side at the British Aeroplane Works, is a direct descendant, on his father's side, of the famous Admiral Benbow. The bride was a nurse at the Southmead Hospital...... there were two bridesmaids, the Misses Margaret (Peggy) Newman, sister of the bridegroom, and Elsie Williams of Cirencester, a lifelong friend of the bride....." |
