Find Ancestors

Just looking for some advise please.

I am trying to help my friend find out where her Mum, Jean Mary Cartwright was buried or cremated.

Jean died at the age of 35 on 28th June 1970 in Lambeth, Greater London. Jean was born 12th May 1935 in Horsham, West Sussex. My friend was 4 at the time, and placed into care, there were other siblings but they were all split up and are not in contact with each other so we have no one to ask.

I have looked on Ancestry and Find My Past, and also searched newspapers on FMP, and Googled for an obituary.

Any suggestions as to where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

I will probably just order the death certificate and see where that leads me.

Best bet is to get the cert and then contact the parks and cemetery dept of the local council giving them the details from the cert

Shirley, yes I think that's Dad, I did find that record, not a lot to cross reference with at the moment. I did find the 1939 record with Jean on there so I am happy with that record.

As the family consistently lived in Surrey it may be that Jean wasn’t living in Lambeth but was transferred to a hospital there for treatment but she passed away

Hopefully the cert will give a home address

If it was Surrey then it’s likely she would have been taken home

You do need that death certificate!

To my knowledge the only sibling she was in touch with was John, then lost contact, I think I have found him for her, wont post on here.

I will order the certificate, so far we have established the family remained around Crawley and Horsham (both West Sussex/Surrey border) so you are probably right about Lambeth.

I have ordered the death certificate for Jean Mary Charman and the marriage certificate for Jean Mary Charman and Edward Cartwright today.

I am having difficulties in finding a birth record for Edward Cartwright, cant see him on the 1939 register.

I think the death previously posted by Shirley is him, DOB 12 Aug 1935 Pancras, and DOD 1990 Crawley.

Would like to find him on the 1939 register and also would like to order his birth certificate.

Would you please see if you can find him on the 1939 register for me please, I don't need anything else as I am enjoying the challenge for my friend/neighbour, but I am stuck on Edward.

There are a couple of trees on Ancestry with a possible birth, but I don't want to take any notice of them.

The child Edward doesn't seem to have died before 1939 - maybe he'd been evacuated somewhere.

Hi Maddie, thank you, I have that one, not sure how to prove it is him, I think it is, would just be nice to find him on the 1939 register to be more sure.

That couple had three other children before Edward - twins in 1931, and a daughter in 1932 - details on freeBMD.

I can't see any of them in 1939.
