Another "Brick Wall" I'm afraid!
The Charles Mead 1859-1937 (originally from Medmenham/Marlow, Buckinghamshire), memorial in west Drayton, Middlesex mentions a "Sarah Hannah Mead", passed away January 5th 1923, aged 55 years. Others mentioned are Emily Mead (his first wife) died September 3rd 1904, aged 47years and their daughter Melinda Annie, died May 18th 1971. Unmarried it seems!

Firstly, cannot find Charles and Emily on the 1901 census, but their daughter Melinda is shown "In service" in the 1901 and 1911 census with, respectively, the Beale and Moses families.

The only Sarah Hannah (Milling), from Leeds, Yorkshire), I can find, is a marriage to a Charles Mead in Guildford, Surrey, in OND 1907. She died in 1923.
Cannot seem to find them in the 1911 census!

Later, Charles is with daughter Melinda in the 1929 and 1935 electoral roles in Yewsley/West Drayton, an area of Middlesex.
(After father Charles passed away, Melinda is with cousin Mabel1896 in the 1939 register still in Yewsley).

My question is....What happened with Charles shortly after Emily died in 1904?

Can anyone add to all this please?

Charles was at West London Cricket Ground - "caretaker's residence" - from at least 1902 onwards.
Only the main householders are listed in the earlier years (at least 1902-1911 re Charles) so no mention of Sarah (or Emily).
1902-11 the cricket ground's address is given as Highlever Road (Upper).


Perhaps the enumerator by-passed the cricket ground in 1901 and 1911, not realising anyone lived there??

Nowadays the Sutton estate (Sutton Way) is where the cricket ground used to be - opposite the junction of Dalgarno Gardens and Highlever Road.

Thank you to all of you for the above information. No wonder we cannot find Charles registered at the cricket ground in 1901 and 1911 census.
Perhaps the 1921 census will at least show Charles and Sarah there.
If their marriage is valid, why Guildford, when other relations are in the Yewsley/Drayton area! Perhaps Charles got to know her there when she was "In service" in the area!
