Have traced my grt grt grt gfather to a John Johnson (London) with a DOB 23/10/1797 and have his spouse as Elizabeth Kirke but have hit a brick wall trying to get anything relating to either of them.
Would like to get some details on their birth , marriage and death.

Any suggestions on where to look greatly appreciated

Have you tried family search site

They hold many parish records

As you have worked back to them you must have found them on some census

What about marriages for their children,hopefully one cert will indicate whether the father was deceased or not

Which of their children are you descended from ?

It’s finding records and putting some order to them to narrow down timelines

Where did you get the DoB?

Until 1837, the only records were of baptisms

Which site did you use?

How did you find out his wife’s name?

Which of their children is your line? Name, year and place of birth, please.

This looks like the correct baptism record. Note the date you have is his Baptism not birth. Parish of Stepney. There are quite a few other Johns born and baptised around this time.
