Find Ancestors

Hello All, I haven't posted for 5 years so hope I remember how things work.

Can anyone help with an 1901 and/or 1911 census look up please.
I am looking for siblings and parents of Mildred Sarah A Evans b Sept 1896 Newport Mon. She married William Hayward in 1913 Newport and sadly died aged 23 in 1920 Newport.

Any info is much appreciated

Look at her birth registration on the GRO site…..FREE to use. It records MMN, which may help you with finding the marriage of her parents

I had heard that Mildred's sister had died aged around 15 but I didn't know her name. From the census info you kindly provided this could be her.....

Erica - what is the GRO site? I didn't know that mmn was shown in 1890's. Obviously things have moved on a bit in the last few years.

https://www.gov.uk is also where you will find mmn on birth records , and for age at death, from 1837 onwards.

Once you've registered and logged in, you'll see the option "Search GRO Online Indexes".
You can only search births and deaths, but they are invaluable .

Some disadvantages - you must enter the person's surname, for instance, so if you're not sure what name the record might be in, it's sometimes easier to find a likely record first on FreeBMD and then double-check on GRO.

GRO only shows you a maximum of five pages of results for any one search, so if the person has a common name, it's best to add a middle name if you know it, or any other extra detail. Or again, check on FreeBMD first.

Also, you can't search with a whole county as place of birth, as you can on FreeBMD if you're not sure of the exact place . so unless the person has a distinctive enough name, again, try FreeBMD first, then double-check.
