The marriage cert would be the answer |

Interesting that his Will wasn't proved until 2004 |

No help with Harriet, I'm afraid, but here's Joyce in 1939, with her age one year out, in case you don't have it: |

With no clue about Harriet's birth year, finding her will be difficult, to say the least |

I know Ethel is a half-sister from her half-brother's daughter who has supplied me with the initial information. She knows very little about her father's family hence the reason for searching. I really do think we need the marriage cert. I didn't know that about his will. Thanks for your help. |

Re the late proving of the will. My grandmother died over 40 years after her first husband, but his intestacy was mentioned in her probate papers. |

Whose half-brother? And what was his name? |

ErikaH | Report | 3 Mar 2021 16:08 |
Intestacy means he didn't leave a Will - not the same as late Probate of an existing document |

I think the half-brother Annie mentions is William Dennis. |

No, they're not related to me. I'm just trying to help out a friend. Yes, the William above is the half-brother. |

I'm wondering if Harriet's family were gypsies - Smith and Gibbs are names which are prevalent in that community, especially if there was a child named Innocent - not that I can see ANY trace |

Theoretically, yes. |

Where did your friend find the information about Harriet and Innocent and the "long line of children" ? |
