Robert Charles Swanson born 1875 Seaton Carew Co Durham parents William and Sarah. Robert marries Frances Mary Godwin on 30 August 1909 Durban, Natal, South Africa both full age, by licence. Robert is a civil servant. Frances is born 1870. On the 1911 census they are in England at Selling, Faversham Kent. Robert a civil servant and it says Nth Rhodessia for industry and they are visitors and for number in family it says 5. This is off family search. It has Robert born Leaston Crawe but as above this should be Seaton Carew. Could someone take a look at the census on Ancestry or FMP to see who they are staying with. They have one daughter Mary Ward Swanson who marries Charles Deane Cowper 1948. Mary born 1910 according to her death record. I cannot find a birth for Mary so suspect she may have been born abroad. On FMP for 1922 there is a Robert Charles Swanson going to Kingston, Jamaica - could someone also take a look at this entry. Thank you. PS I don't need any further details (yet) apart from my request above. Thanks |

Hello, Thank you Erika and Kay - I've sent for Frances Mary's will which usually comes within 5 days (only £1.50). Mary Ward Swanson was her sole beneficiary so that may reveal more. Didn't consider adoption. Frances brother was also in South Africa 1914. |

You may already know that Mary was in the WRNS during WW2. |

Re the 1911 census,,,, |

If the DOB given in 1939 is correct, Mary wasn't born until November 1911. |

No birth or baptism on FMP. Is WARD a family name? |

I assume Marian is trying (or perhaps has managed - I've rather lost track) to link Mary and her parents to the family in the first part of this thread, where the name Ward features. |

Hello Argyl, Kay and Erika, I didn't know about Mary being in the WRNS so that's something new. It's nice to know that Mary's birth has been found. I have only recently found Charles because on the 1881 census on family search, only William, Sarah, Emilie and William came up. I have only just found Sarah on the 1991 census with Charles. I don't know why but sometimes on family search only half the families show up and I don't know how to get to the next page. Thank you for your efforts. |
