greyghost - same problem that I had, I've tried different variations but couldn't find anything that seemed to match, but I'm not always good on variant spellings and using wildcards, hence asking here hoping someone else might spot something I missed.

Unfortunately, unless grossly misspelt, or I can't see for looking, there doesn't appear to be anyone with the surname Sandland on the 1841/1851 census who says they were born in Notts.

Perhaps the family moved out of County before any census and either children born elsewhere or too young to know they were born Notts. Although that may not account for the Ann that was buried in Gedling.

Burial records are the least available

Maddie, your Hannah Tagg marriage is Sarah Tagg's niece. Father William being Sarah's brother b 1788.

My current list of baptisms for John & Elizabeth is as follows -

Ann Tagg 1781–1781
John Tagg 1782–
Sarah Tagg 1785–
William Tagg 1788–1866
James Tagg 1790–1847
Ann Tagg 1795–1795
Richard Tagg 1796–1873 *
Elizabeth Tagg 1802–1872
Hannah Tagg 1804–1815

* there is also a 1798 baptism of a Richard Tag at Burton Joyce, I am currently unsure whether the first Richard died in infancy or was baptised twice.

You could try Nottingham Record Office, see if they'll do you a look up (may cost)

or have a look at the thread below and when current restrictions are relaxed you might be able to get a look up -

greyghost - thanks this may indeed relate to Ann, possibly working in Gedling as a servant. Frustrating that the Register scans are not online to see what else the entry might contain.

Erika - the basic line as I currently have it is
Alice Kathleen Bell b 1913 Great Ponton Lincs - my grandmother
Willam Bell b 1880 Notts - her father
George Bell b 1856 Notts - his father
Ann Percival b1824 Notts - his mother
Elizabeth Tagg b 1802- her mother

The waters are a little cloudy on the family of John Tagg b1756 and Elizabeth James b 1749. My interest in Sarah is that I am not sure whether she is the sister of Elizabeth Tagg, or her mother. Elizabeth was bapt with parents showing as John and Elizabeth Tagg, but Elizabeth Snr would have been in her early 50's, whereas Sarah would have been 17. There is also another "daughter" Hannah bapt at Burton Joyce in 1804 with parents John & Elizabeth Tagg (Burton Joyce is just down the road from Lowdham).

How did you work back to them?

Julie

Julie Report 12 Dec 2020 11:19

I am trying to track down what happened to Sarah Tagg after she married George Sandland in Lowdham Notts in 1809. She was baptised in Lowdham 1785, parents John & Elizabeth Tagg. She had an illegitimate daughter Anne, baptised in Lowdham in 1807.
I haven't been able find any trace of Sarah, George or Anne after 1809.
