Being fairly new to genealogy, where would I look for family information prior to the first census of 1841 please.

Parish records - ie - births/baptisms/marriages/deaths.

Where did your family live?

If in England/Wales - look on FreeBMD (Sept 1837 onwards).
You might find something on FamilySearch (free site) - but be careful to search in "records", and not "Genealogies".
Ancestry (subscription site)
FindMyPast (ditto)

If in Scotland, register with Scotlands People site.
In Ireland - irishgenealogy.ie

There are also more local sites, depending on where your family came from.

I hope your all keeping safe during this never ending virus, I'm doing some family research on the Law family in Wittersham, Kent. In particular
Sarah Law b 1854.Mother Sarah Ann Lennard, Father Stephen Law
I can only find census information on Sarah in years
1861 a 7. Living in Boons Hill, Iden. and 1871 census in Kings St, Rye recorded as a Servant a 18, in the home of George H Edwards b 1809 a 62 & Henry Eastland b 1854 a 17, recorded as an Apprentice.
However through a "Tree Match" connection I have received this information,

Many thanks for your prompt response, I do have Census info on Sarah in 1861 & 1871, but after fruitless searches I can not find further info on Sarah, from 1881 -1891 - 1901- 1911, even though the info is clearly there ?
