Use the GRO site for birth records to give accurate year - mmn shown from start of registration in 1837. Will also give age at death from 1837 on (pre the commercial sites which start mid 1860's) you have to register with the site, but free to use.

Thanks again. Strange that they would give another daughter the name of Mary while the first one was still alive. I can't seem to find a birth for the second Mary on FreeBMD or GRO.

Thanks safc. I had her born about 1854 in Garston from the 1871 census. Just shows how dates can throw you. With the 1858 date I've found her in 1901 census so looks as though she never married.

I'm trying to find what happened to Mary Layton Tipping. She was born about 1854 in Garston, to parents John Tipping and Ellen Layton. I can find her up to 1871 but not after that. She possibly married, not using her middle name, but I've been unable to find her.
