Thankyou so much to you all, this is indeed the family I was looking for and from what you have found I can now complete some death details.
I was hoping to find a James Richards who went to USA in 1881 with his sister Mary Ann Ward and brother in law George Ward. He has gone missing as 1890 census for USA were lost. Have searched for many years without result. Needless to say his parents were also Mark & Prescilla, which drew my attention. He was born 1851.

Thanks Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it.
Regret not him as when he emigrated in 1881 he left behind his wife Mary Ann and four daughters. Mary (who was his 1st. cousin), remarried in 1893 Do not know if James was dead by then. Family talk of him being a Captain who went to Yukon or South Africa and wrote a book on his travels. In fact he was a miner, as was his brother in law and rest of his family.

He's listed as a mechanic.

On the two lines above his name are Margaret [ Margt ] Ward , 30, matron, and George Ward, 37, mechanic.

Have looked at my copy of pass. list again, the Margaret was surname Thomas.

Don't think they were related to George or his brother in law James who gave occupations as mechanics, but on the 1881 census taken prior to their departure both were listed as coal miners living with their families in Killamarsh, Derbyshire.
George's wife and children followed him to USA the next year............
