Marjorie obviously took the name Laming - officially, somehow - in 1946, but without a record of a marriage, the circumstances may never be known.

A possible avenue of research would be to get a copy of the 1950 marriage cert for Marjorie's address - then check the Electoral Roll for preceding years to see if she's listed, and who she's with. At least that would give you a name

The ER is searchable only by address and will be held at the main public library for the area - or maybe at the county Records Office.

Hi Erikha - talk about keeping it in the family - yes your right in saying Mabel married her stepfather's son. I also tried looking for Marjories 2nd marriage to Laming but do you think because we can't find the evidence that maybe he was just a partner as opposed to a legal marriage?

The 1939 register was updated until around 1980 (I think-not sure of year) as it formed the basis for the issuing of NI numbers

The marriage info was added only for women.

My father married my stepmother in 1949, and the date of their marriage is on her record., along with her ‘new’ surname

The 1939 register also showed Marjorie’s second re-marriage, as you can see from the surnames given for her on the record..
