How old was he when he died? Age at death should give a clearer idea of birth year

The 1841 census rounds down adult ages to the nearest 5 years, so if his age is given as 40 he could be anything from 40 to 44 years old which would mean the christening found by Rose above could quite possibly be him.

HI Ellen, I have a Walker branch but I don't think the right one for your friend. I have John walker Father to Amos Walker b 1831 Amos Walker father to William Walker b 1854 William Walker father to William Walker b 1881 They were all weavers at Courtaulds in Fosehill Coventry. I know they were from "up north" but haven't got back there yet. Sorry not the ones you want but only really getting this side of my family sorted

It very much looks as though your Amos Walker wasn't 'Walker' until he married, as far as I can see on Ancestry
Ancestry links his marriage record to this 1851 census
Name: Amos Bond Age: 21 Estimated birth year: abt 1830 Relation: Visitor Gender: Male Where born: Foleshill, Warwickshire, England Civil Parish: Foleshill Ecclesiastical parish: St Paul County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Registration district: Foleshill Sub-registration district: Foleshill ED, institution, or vessel: 4a Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 9 Piece: 2066 Folio: 226 Page Number: 3 Household Members: Name Age Edward England 21********** Amos Bond 21............Occ: Weaver Mary Ann England 18 Sophia Goodchild 17 Hannah King 19
**********Edward England was a witness to his marriage
.................and this 1841 census
Name: Amos Band Age: 12 Estimated birth year: abt 1829 Gender: Male Where born: Warwickshire, England Civil Parish: Foleshill Hundred: Coventry County/Island: Warwickshire Country: England Street address: Occupation: View image Registration district: Foleshill Sub-registration district: Foleshill Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 1154 Book: 4 Folio: 24 Page Number: 6 Household Members: Name Age John Band 40.................Labourer, born in Warickshire Elizabeth Band 41 John Band 18 Hannah Band 16 Harriett Band 14 Amos Band 12 David Band 10 Henry Band 8
This may be the explanation
ViewEngland & Wales, Criminal Registers, 1791-1892 Add or update information Report a problem Name: John Walker [John Bond] Age: 33 Estimated birth year: abt 1802 Date of Trial: 26 Mar 1835 Trial Year: 1835 Location of Trial: Warwickshire, England Sentence: Acquittal Crime: Sheep stealing
So, Amos etc may well have been Walker at birth after all, with a change to Band in between
But they were certainly a Warwickshire family at least as far back as 1801
