I often spent hours in the middle of the UK night, prime evening time here, looking up records, sorting family out, and sending it off.

Hardly ever got a reply of course, and quite often wondered how many others had spent time before me doing exactly the same thing and sending off the same information :-D

I didn't ask any question myself at that time, so I still don't know!

It ended about a year later when the site was revamped a little, and replies could be made online.

It was when GR was basically still being run "out of the garage" by the original developers as an offshoot from Friends Reunited. Both GR and FR were pretty clunky in those days, in a very simplistic way!!

There is a fairly comprehensive tree on Ancestry, going back to

that thread dates back to 2005, when it was impossible to reply on the thread to messages on Finding Ancestors.

All replies had to be sent by pm ................ it was a very clumsy system because o-one knew whether anyone else had replied or what had been said!

Plus the pms could only handle replies of a certain length, I tried to send more than one message that was too long, only to find that half of it was lost!

It sounds from from Carole's OP on this thread that she did get at least some replies

there are a few births reg camberwell which is the peckham area

It has been a very long time since I have been on here and I am hoping there are people here who can help me. I am interested in finding information about my family and luckily it is an unusual name. I had contact with people years ago and there was a lady who had a very extensive Samuda family tree. I wonder if she is still around. If any one has any information I would love to hear from you.
