Hello,
I have a Joseph Aston born 1653/58 in Staffordshire, married to Elisabeth.
They had 5 children :Hannah, Daniel, Joseph, John and Edward.
Edward Aston married Margaret Smallman.
Their son was Abel Aston married to Eleanor.

I am trying to trace Joseph's father.
It could be a John Aston born1605? married to Ann Acton born 1615.
Does anyone have any info?

I don't know if this is the right one, unfortunately there are so many Astons in that area.
My Joseph was born around 1653/58 married to Elisabeth.

You're lucky to have got so far back, to be honest.

Marriage records at that time didn't give parents' names.

I don't see any likely marriage record - which wouldn't give parents' names in any case.

Yes, this is the right one, the children's details are correct.
If I can proof that Joseph's mother was Ann Acton I could go back even further.
As you say, the records become scarce the further back you go.

Not totally sure but probably in Sedgley.
His marriage could have been around 1678 to Elisabeth.
All his children were born in Sedgley.
