Hayward Coopey (1828 Twigworth Glos) and Ann (1826 Dymock Glos) had 7 children.
The first two, Martin 1848 and Julia Ann 1850 had MMN of Eynon.
The other 5, Charles 1855, Willliam Hubert 1857, Martin 1859, Clara, 1863 and Leah1868 had MMN of Onions
The cencus has the Mother's detail the same for both MMN,
On the face of it there was just one mother BUT the different MMN says otherwise. My gut says only one mother, but I cannot prove one way or the other

Was just about to say the same Kay.
Have you looked at the 1841 census to see if there is an Ann Eynon or Ann Onions? Have you looked for a marriage record to see what name is given there? If there are 2 mothers then the first probably died so have you checked for a death of an Ann Coopey between 1850 and 1855?
These are just things to try but my instinct is that the registrar wrote down what he thought he heard and that there is probably only one mother.

I completely agree with Vera and Kay.
If it were my tree, I would have absolutely no doubt .
It's just a variation of spelling because of how the registrar thought it should be spelled
.
Many people were illiterate in those days, and wouldn't know if their name was spelled correctly or not.
Not that there was really a "correct" way to spell names at that time in any case.

All names have the chance of miss-spelling back then as not that many people could read or write so they wouldn't knw if someone had written their name correctly or not.
