I'd found that death, with the info about a spouse named Harriet.

If the man who married Ellis was born 1842, she was 13 years his junior.

So - which - if any - of these people are you actually certain is related to you?

William James Thompson married Mary Ann Ellis 1855-1883 in 1876 in Victoria Australia They had a Daughter Catherine Alice Thompson born 1878 Richmond Victoria Australia.

That still doesn’t tell us anything about where and when he was born

What is the source of your info about that? Do you have any documentary evidence?

The man who died in 1929 does not appear to be the one who married Mary Ellis, unless there were two men of the name born in the same year

I found a possible death record on Find My Past for an Agnes Thompson 1876-1879 Warncourt (Warncoot) ? Cemetery register and headstones Victoria Australia I am signed up to Find a Grave and billion graves but couldn't pick up anything. I have not fond any evidence of Agnes after her birth in 1876 and wondered if she died as a child. Her Mother being Catherine Ellis who died in 1883. Apologies if I am asking too much but being in lockdown in UK is hard going when you are nearly 70. Thank you Pam
