RE May being the 3rd month -

Since medieval times, 25 March has been known as Lady Day, and for centuries it has been seen as very special indeed.

The name comes from the medieval Church’s celebration of the Annunciation, which Christians believe was the moment the archangel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would bear a son. Once the Church had fixed the liturgical date of Christmas at 25 December, the Annunciation logically fell around 40 weeks earlier. Since the seventh century, it has been celebrated on 25 March. In medieval England, the day grew to be known as Lady Day (a corruption of Our Lady’s Day). Even when Catholicism was outlawed in the Reformation, the name lived on. In Samuel Pepys’s diary entries – made between 1660 and 1669 – he regularly dated his 25 March entries simply as “Lady Day”....

Until 1752 it was the first day of the year.

Can be quite confusing when looking at OPR's !!

Hi
Well I suppose it could be possible that she was having children over a long space of time. Sounds more realistic than William (1739 ) having children at 13 in 1752 and getting married 2 years later.

Margaret Report 9 Apr 2020 07:30

Good Morning,
Can anyone help with the above gentleman who is my 3rd G Grandfather? He married in 1785 to Sarah Burkitt and marriage document states father was William Aldam and mother Mary both deceased at the marriage. They were Quakers and married at Balby Meeting House.

We found a William Aldam Snr 1739 but that makes him only 13 when William jnr was born. Also William Snr marriage to Mary Potter if it's the correct one was 1754, 2 years after William Jnr's birth.

I am on Ancestry also and quite a few people have put these dates down but I do like to be certain.

Grateful for any help.
Best wishes Margaret.
