I have been trying for years to trace my g.g.grandmother's parents but with no success. Her name was Mary Ann Gough, born circa 1852 and she married William Warner. She died in 1873 leaving her son Richard, my g.grandfather, who was only two. Any information, no matter how vague, would be most appreciated. With very many thanks. Liz

Buy a copy of the marriage cert. If she knew her father, his name and occupation will be recorded

The above shows Margaret Ann Gough, 8 months, daughter of Margaret Gough, born Scotland.
Margaret Ann's birth:
GOUGH, MARGARET ANN - GRO Reference: 1870 S Quarter in WEST BROMWICH Volume 06B Page 723
And, sadly, her death:
Margaret Ann Gough in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1837-1915 Name: Margaret Ann Gough Estimated birth year: abt 1870 Registration Year: 1871 Registration Quarter: Oct-Nov-Dec Age at Death: 1 Registration district: West Bromwich Inferred County: Staffordshire Volume: 6b Page: 568
I can't see birth in Scotland of either Margaret Gough c1848, or Mary Ann c1852. Of course, it may just be that their births weren't registered.

In 1871 the Barnett family is living in Harwood Street (Cutlers End).
The next street the enumerator came to was Richard Street, where Mary Ann Gough, Betsey Chinn, etc were living.
Might be significant, or could be just coincidence.
Looking at Google Maps, I see that Richard Street joins Harwood Street at right angles.
Cutlers End is now called Lambert End, and is 0.2 miles from Richard Street per Google Maps.
"By the later 18th century there was some settlement at Ireland Green (the area around the present Gads Lane), Cutler's End (now Lambert's End), and Old End (the present Richard Street area)." https://www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/staffs/vol17/pp4-11
