At one time Swallowfield had four churches, the oldest by far being All Saints. Papal sanction for the building of which was granted to the bishop of Salisbury in the year 1230. (Parts of Swallowfield were, in those days, an "island" part of the County of Wiltshire. Hence Part Lane?).

Looks like the Wiltshire connection was in the 1200's and so you probably need to be looking at Berkshire for most of your research.

Are you confusing Swallowfield with Swallowcliffe? Swallowcliffe is in Wiltshire.

Swallowfield was in Wokingham district until 1974 and is a good 30 miles from the edge of Wiltshire.

Does anyone know where to find information on Swallowfield, Berkshire ? At some point in time it was part of the Salisbury see and therefore considered to be in Wiltshire. I have ancestors from that area and don't know which county to search !! I suppose I need dates as to when it was part of Wiltshire as it is now firmly settled in Berkshire.

Siggs of Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex and West London, Wise of North Hampshire, Wiltshire and North London and Aubrey/Whiting of South Wales/Herefordshire.
