alviegal Report 11 Oct 2019 14:31

'The disappearance of a small Grimsby fishing vessel, in which 2 brothers of an MP lost their lives, stilll remains a mystery 17 months after the vessel's last voyage.

The report of an investigation into the disappearance in the North Sea of the Sareva (25 tons) says today "the evidence did not establish with certainty how or why the Sareva was lost."

Mr HV Brandon who headed the investigation says " the court finds the most likely explanation of her loss is that she capsized and foundered in the extremely heavy weather which reached it's peak soon after midnight on the night of Oct.13 and 14 1963."

The report adds that 'a deficiency in the vessel's stability was a contributing factor to it's loss.'

On board the Sareva was Jos McLoughlin and his brother, Pete both of Grimsby. Their brother Charles McLoughlin is Labout MP for Gloucester West.

Also on board was the skipper Mr Thomas Andersen, a Dane of Humberston, Lincs. All were lost.
