That army record has father Anthony Bell crossed through and "none" written in, for siblings full or half it just has "none".

Thank you Rambling, so no further as to a marriage, looks like a few years age difference between Anthony Bell and Mararet Lee, so perhaps he was a married man. Even unsure exactly where in Scotland Margaret was born so unable to trace her family. What ever the outcome my Pop would have had the Bell blood in him.thats for sure.

John I did look at Scotland's People website but couldn't see a marriage there either.

John

John Report 25 Sep 2019 17:09

Their first son Robert was born in 1879, so around before the 1881 census, so strange the family not found

John

John Report 25 Sep 2019 17:04

Do you think they could have got married In
Scotland, ?

Rambling

Rambling Report 25 Sep 2019 16:59

John, I haven't found a marriage so it's my guess they didn't marry but that the children were registered in fathers name anyway. When the couple split Margaret reverted to using her maiden name as did the children who stayed with her. Wish I could find her before 1881 though.

John

John Report 25 Sep 2019 16:54

Yes Rambling, I also feel this is the family, but how strange that their surname is now Lee, the mothers maiden name, wished I could be a fly on the wall to see how that happened , obviously before 1901.

John that does look possible, as I noted the place name Glasshoughton as address for the brother on army records. and would also explain why Andrew put his mother's address as unknown.

John

John Report 25 Sep 2019 00:07

The family is so confusing found an Anthony Bell b 1841 Durham, living with son Robert in 1911 census, states he was a widower, they were living in Glass Houghton nr Castleford. I wonder if He and wife Margaret seperated because she was living in Pontefract in 1911 under the name of Lee with 3 children all under name of Lee.

John

John Report 24 Sep 2019 23:37

If could establish that Margaret Bell ne Lee was born in Scotland it would be even more proof this is the family but feel it is

John

John Report 24 Sep 2019 23:33

Certainly looks like the family is called a Bell, The sister of my Pop was called a called Agnes Rebecca Lee born 1908, he also had a brother Robert Lee and a Andrew Frederick Lee all names in the Bell family. Oh my goodness the family are going to be shocked that their name could be Bell. Ironically Pops sister Edna May Lee married a John Bell in Sheffield

Yes this is the Lee family, no I do not have a marriage cert. What do you think of this R. I have just found a Mark Bell on the 1891 census, with mother Margaret and brothers Anthony and Andrew, looks like Andrew was born in Sleepburn, I think that was written on the Army record for Andrew, Do you think this could be the family, unsure where Margaret was born, couldn’t make it out.
