I don't think the other Walter Patchett is necessarily anything to do with yours.
Patchett seems to be a very common name in that part of the country.


It's certainly possible that Frances wasn't telling the truth in 1939, when she said she was divorced - but we'll never know. I think it's more likely she was telling the truth. After all, she could have called herself Britton for respectability, and claimed to be married - but instead she was honest.
We do know she remarried in 1947.

i don't know who the walter born 1892 in 1939 reg is, my walter was born 1906. Is it a coincidence he was also divorced. Could frances have put divorced to save face and never married william britton because she was still married

Malcolm's surname is Patchett.

He's not registered as Britton - that 's why I said William Britton didn't appear to be his father.

re 1939 - the date 2/11/73 is the date the change of name was registered - not the date the change of name took place..
It doesn't say anything about Bertha/Mary's death, and doesn't indicate the reason for the change.

The code is CR 283 LDS.
CR 283 just means there was a change of name.
LDS might mean that the change was registered at the Leeds office.

As well as her daughter Marlene, Frances had a son Malcolm in 1940 in Leeds.

Presumably she was no longer with William Britton, as he was apparently not the father.
