Just wondered if it's possible to track down the birth date & month of a Jessie MacKay
she was born in 1842 in Scotland think.. Edinburgh, her father was Angus MacKay, who became piper to Queen Victoria her mother Mary Russell, they were married at Canongate Edinburgh in May 1841. Jessie went on to marry a D.P.Pellatt on the 17/7/1880

I have a copy of Jessie death cert she died 4th of April 1901 and her sister
Margaret Elizabeth died 20th Sept 1912 after being in an accident I would like to try and trace her brother John MacKay who went to Sidney Aust he was a wine merchant

There is a tree on Ancestry which has details for John MacKay .............. he apparently married in 1885

He does not appear to be on the 1881 England Census, so that implies that he left between 1871 and 1885.

The tree says he died in 1913 in NSW

Reason ..................

I found that there was another John MacKay, who was born 1850, living in the Sydney area who died at about the same time, and who appeared in several news items in newspapers on Trove, the Australian newspaper site. He was born in NSW and his occupation was completely different from Valerie's John.

Valerie needs to find out if that grave stone inscription is online to see if it is accurate or not.

Thank you for all this info, have something to work on now, been in the dark with this one for a long time.

I have found that John was born in the first quarter J.F.March 1848 from a write up in a piping mag about his father Angus sadly I have mislay this info :-(
