Hi

I am trying to find a marriage between John William Evans and Margaret Annie Evans (he was born in Bethnal Green and she was born in Birmingham - according to the 1911 and 1901 census)

She does appear to go by Annie and Marg also on other documents for her children's baptisms - first child Margaret Annie Evans born 1886 in Bethnal Green

Going by year of birth on the Census - they would have been born 1859 (John) and 1863 (Margaret)

Any help would be great

Sorry for the delay - thanks for looking - I had not seen the family next door, not sure if related at the moment

just really struggling with regards to the marriage

The 1911 census says that John and Margaret have been married for 28 years with 11 children born to the marriage. 9 are still alive at that point but 2 have died.

So IF they married, and if they had the maths right, it would have been around 1882. Perhaps they didn't marry, but they registered the children's births as if they were.

The children who died have been named on the census and scored through. They were Joey aged 4 or 14 months and George aged 4 both said to have been born Stratford (West Ham RD). Perhaps you know about them anyway? Possible that the ages are the age at which they died so would have to look through birth and death reg's. Bethnal Green and W.Ham

I did wonder about this one, simply because of location and time? The name is out though and I haven't looked to see who married who

It is possible that one or both had been married before, and therefore they were unable to marry.


Try looking for a possible marriage for either one of them before 1882 ..... eg, look in the 1881 Census.

Then try looking for a much later marriage in case the partner that I've postulated died and they were then free to marry.
