AustinQ - that does sound like it might be possible! Susanna would have needed someone to support her and the children whilst George was in prison I suppose. Pretending her maiden name was Goodwin suggests she may not have divorced first…
I was wondering how her daughter Caroline, the 16 year old daughter of a labourer (farm labourer rather than farmer I think) married a Solicitor's clerk (son of a relatively succesful wheelwright business owner). The marriage certificate only has one address as residence at time of marriage. Maybe she was the servant?
Any idea what happened to the final husband? Odd that Susanna ended up back Wavendon having lived away for 20 years…
Many Thanks

True. Perhaps she had to claim to be unmarried to get the job.
Or maybe they were "on a break" in 1851!

Very possible AG-
however, if we have the correct man, George Goodhall was with their son (Charles Goodhall b1853) in 1861- meaning they must have got together at some point. I doubt that George would care for a son that wasn't his.
1861 England, Wales & Scotland Census West Court Down, Nonington, Eastry, Kent, England

Susanna does seem to have been a bit of a flighty piece.
This may be her in 1851 (apologies if already posted) , claiming to be unmarried, while George is with Caroline elsewhere.
Susan Goodhall in the 1851 England Census Name: Susan Goodhall Age: 24 Estimated birth year: abt 1827 Relation: Servant Gender: Female Where born: Wavendon, Buckinghamshire, England Civil Parish: Hampstead County/Island: Middlesex Country: England Registration district: Hampstead Sub-registration district: Hampstead ED, institution, or vessel: 02 Neighbors: Household schedule number: 13 Piece: 1492 Folio: 32 Page Number: 5
So she and George may have already separated.

I keep coming back to the Susan Maria Goodwin- I'm wondering if her slight shift in name was because her husband was still living:
Susan married Samuel Murden in 1855 in Kent. She lists her father as JOSEPH Goodwin.
Susan and Samuel have at least 3 children:
Fanny Murden 1857- she died the same year Samuel Orlando Murden 1859 Nottingham (baptised in Hampshire) Frederick Murden 1861 Nottingham
This is her in 1861- I'm thinking the niece, Caroline is actually her daughter- her son Charles was living with his father in Kent in 1861:
1861 England, Wales & Scotland Census Caroline Street, St Mary, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England
Saville Murden Head Married Male 44 1817 Pensioner Plumtree, Nottinghamshire, Susan M Murden Wife Married Female 32 1829 Dressmaker Wavendon, Buckinghamshire, Samuel Murden Son - Male 2 1859 - Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Caroline Goodwin Niece - Female 13 1848 Hose Mender Woburn Sands, Bedfordshire, -------------------------------
Husband, Samuel Murden died later in 1861.
Susan then marries Charles Baker in 1863 Hampshire. (she lists her father as Joseph Goodwin) They have at least one daughter born 1866- Selina Agnes Baker. Selina died 1867 Carisbrooke. There is a mention in the paper, but she is just listed as daughter of Charles Baker. Charles Baker died Carisbrooke in 1868.
I cannot find Susan (or son, Frederick Murden) in 1871 -----------------------------
It then seems Susan marries again in 1873 Islington (under Murden surname) to Kenneth Edward Mackenzie. She lists her father as Joseph Goodwin, and her address as Birkenhead (very close to where her daughter, Caroline, is living).
Shortly after her marriage it looks like Susan returned to Buckinghamshire. Her son, Frederick Murden dies in 1873 Newport Pagnell.
And then there is the listing of a burial for Susanna Goodall or Murden born c1829 in 1875 Wavendon (death was listed under Murden Surname). ------------------------------------
I'm still working on this- just wanted to get it down.

Going on age, I don't think that Caroline with the Heighington family is the correct one. I think that Caroline is likely the daughter of this couple:

Many Thanks to All! Some fantastic leads to work on.
The George Goodhall who was transported was released on licence in 1856. Could he have come back to the UK in time to be the same one on the 1861 census in Kent that Rambling mentioned? It’s probably unlikely I think. Any suggestions of places to look into that?
If it is him then it would have left Susannah with newly born son Charles when he left in 1853. Does anyone know if families followed convicts when they were transported?
That Christening record for Susanna Goodale in 1829 looks likely to be her. If so, it gives her Mothers name as Mary which is great.
The 1869 death of George Goodhall in Southwark that Maddie found is also a real possibility as his daughter Caroline was living in that area with her husband.
The Murden Or Goodall Susanna 1829 — 1875 burial in Wavendon definitely looks like a lead.
I have also found a 16 year old servant in Wavendon in 1861 called Caroling Goodall. I assume that is my GG Grandmother: Household Members: Frances Heighington Sarah Heighington William Heighington Lousia Heighington Louisa Hillhouse Mary Hillhouse Thomas Hillhouse Caraling Goodhall Anne Gardner
