NSW Births Deaths & Marriages have replied, they cant find a death record for William Roberts either. Apparently in the 1880s it was not compulsory to record the death with NSW Birth Deaths & Marriages. So without a death record it looks unlikely I can trace where he was born and who his parents where.
So to each of you thank you for your time and input. It has helped to get a better picture of the life of William Roberts.

I agree the 2 year age difference does raise the question, are there two William Roberts who died at the same time but one two years older than the other.

I did a alphabetic search of the Camperdown Cemetery database and found only one William Roberts who died in the year 1883 and that was 2 January BN17321. (His will states he died on 3rd Jan 1883) So with the Sydney Morning Herald 11/01/1883 Pg 14 reporting William Roberts funeral destination as Camperdown Cemetery, I am confident this is the one and same person. And am putting the 2 year discrepancy down to a clerical error.

Another reason for William Roberts Burial at Camperdown Cemetery is his first wife and son who predeceased him had been buried at Camperdown.

His 2nd wife Eliza King was buried at the Raymond Terrace Pioneer Cemetery in 1887 alongside her 3 daughters who had predeceased her. i have sighted their graves.

I know the newspaper death notice for William says he was 71 and died on 3 Jan 1883, but I'm wondering about the burial at Camperdown of a William Roberts, aged 73, died 2 Jan 1883. (On that link I posted)

Is it possible that's the same person, with some clerical error?
He's apparently not buried in the same grave as Anne Angelina - but then neither is William Ingram. (And I suppose he'd be more likely to be buried with his second wife Eliza in any case.)

If so, maybe his burial number (BN 17321 ) might help the search?

I have contacted NSW Birth Deaths & Marriages, re William Roberts death record hopefully they are able to find it and hopefully it will have his birth location documented either in Russia or UK.

Re William Ingram's burial - in case you don't have this -

he died as the result of an accident, and was first buried at Goulburn Cemetery, then reinterred in Camperdown on 28 /03/1863.

You need a copy of the 1845 marriage cert. It should give you the name and occupation of his father.

Without that info, your chances of finding correct birth info are minimmal. You will, in any case, only be able to find a baptism

According to official online info, the parents' names will be on his death cert

So you have a choice of certs to think about purchasing

Thanks for your input, the William Roberts marriage in 1865 at Penrith is not the William Roberts I am chasing. The William Roberts I am interested in, married in 1866 to Eliza King at Maitland instead. Eliza King was my 2x Great Grandmother.

ErikaH is correct I am hopeing to find out whether Wiliiam Roberts was born in Russia or not and if not I am guessing it is somewhere in the UK .But where?

New South Wales Births Deaths and Marriages does not appear to have a record of his death despite the fact his death is reported in a number of Sydney papers & 1 regional paper. If I could access a Death Transcript hopefully it would have his birth location.

you are correct, HOWEVER, the OP said that he had no idea where William was born after being unable to find a birth/baptism in Russia.

It seems that the information posted, though not directly answering the question, have provided pointers to possible birth in the UK.

Probably 1811, as he was 71 when he died on January 3rd 1883

The above William Roberts married Anne Angelina Wilson on 03 May 1845 at the British Chaplaincy, St Petersburg, Russia. They had two boys both recorded as baptised at the British Chaplaincy, St Petersburg. One boy William Ingram Roberts baptised 1 March 1846 the second Marcus Wielhorski Roberts baptised, 18 April 1848.
William Roberts birth date I calculate to be 1812 as he died in 1883 at 71 years of age.

I have not located any records for William Roberts born in Russia in 1812 and if he was not born in Russia I am assuming it will be the United Kingdom, but have no information to say where he was born in the UK.

I am hoping there is someone out there with further information that can break down this brick wall. :-)
