Harry Victor Dowling was born in 1879 Wey mouth Dorset. I do have him in the census with his family. His son was my friends grandad.
But a Harry only comes up in 1881 as Harry Dowling, foster son. living with Joliffe family. age 2yrs.
Next two census that name is HARRY JOLIFFE.
I was told by an ancestry member that she contacted some-one on genes, a long time ago, who said he lived with other families? Long shot, are you out there ?
This tree I have compiled is a 50th surprise for my friend.. It is only Harry that I have to find out about

I have him as married. To Elizabeth O Doherty. This is correct. There is a baptism to an Edith Dowling single mum. This is only birth in Weymouth I could find.

Yes, by all means buy a copy of his BC. That's the only way to be sure. Are the witnesses on his MC from his 'side' of the family? Did he leave his father's name blank? Even made up names could be a combination of truth & fiction

You are right, I have been reading individual posts. Wrongly replied. Sorry. I wonder if I got this one right?
The witnesses from his marriage are correct. It is an old cert from my friend. That is what I look at first. If witnesses and address are correct, bingo. In this case my friend had it in her possession. Have been doing trees for friends and family for 17 years. Have to get it right. Unfortunately in this case, have only found a birth for Harry in Weymouth. I know that is correct as he and his wife (Ethel Horder in the census. .. have their place of birth recorded. The only piece of good birth I can get is a Henry Victor Dowling born to an Edith Dowling. (single) and that IS WEYMOUTH .At three yrs old, there is Harry dowling with Joliffe family. At 12 the same and at 22yrs the same. He then married Ethel Hoarde Why I put it on this site is becaude a member of Ancestry told me she had been in touch with some-one years ago from Genes. This person told her Harry was fostered out?. Hope this is all ok and explained. I also hope I add it to threads as I find it confusing Regards, Carol

We seem to agree that Harry's mother was the unmarried Edith Mary Dowling who then boarded him out.

The next step, if you want us to take it, is to find out what eventually happened to Edith after her marriage.

Have you searched all member trees for both Henry & Edith's names? Its possible the original GR contact has them listed on a tree on this site. If you can find them, send a message asking if they can help with more details.
