So the first son Arthur (4th qr 1909 Middlesborough) must have died in Canada, in 1911 or 1912, and then Arthur Cecil was born in Canada and named after his brother.

The first Arthur is with his family on the 1911 Canada census, and the second on the 1916 census - both posted on page 1.

A nice article mentioning the Morton boys here (Also has photo of Harold):

Buxton Advertiser - Friday 09 November 1951

Peakland Bandsmen: Mr Harold Morton

WHEN BROWN EDGE HAD ITS OWN BRASS BAND

M'EMBER of Buxton British Legion Band, Mr. Harold Morton, of 144, Brown Edge Road, began his musical career in a rather unusual way. He started in 1932 at the age 17 when a dozen interested Brown Edge men got together and decided to form a Brown Edge Band. They bought second-hand instruments on the hire purchase system as many a struggling band has had to do. When the instruments arrived they were laid out in the Morton's family garage and all made their choice.
Unfortunately young Harold was not there at the time and when he arrived all that was left was a bass trombone.
Couched by Mr F Harris, a musician well known locally, Harold persevered and the band, conducted by the late J T Davies prospered. In the summer they rehearsed in the garden and in the winter in the garage.
In the band were the four brothers of the Morton family, with Arthur on tenor horn, Roy cornet, Tommy cornet and, of course, Harold bass trombone.
With the coming of hard times in Buxton some members lost their jobs, money was short, the installments not paid, and the firm took the instruments back.
The Morton brothers joined Buxton Borough Band, which was also at that time in a precarious position. When the band broke up at the outset of war Mr. Morton and bandmaster Mr. Arthur Slack joined the Home Guard Band. Recalling his service with the Home Guard Band, Mr. Morton says that when the band had an engagement the motor coach used to pick him up at Brook House comer. One fateful -summer’s day the coach lor Chinjgy came an hour earlier than he expected. In full uniform and under a blazing sun, he hitch-hiked to Chapel, then walked to Chinley and then attempted to find Bux worth. He finally staggered on to the field just in time to join in playing the last march. While playing for the Home Guard Band Mr. Morton also helped train ’teen-age players in the former Buxton Sea Cadets’ Band. He played in the band itself on public occasions. was fitted out with a uniform and became “The oldest Sea Cadet in Buxton.’* After the war Mr. Morton moved to Falmouth for two years and played with Falmouth Town Band. On his return to Buxton he joined the British Legion Band, for whom he plays the double bass and bass trombone. A regular attender at rehearsals ("They send out a search party if I don’t turn up"), Mr. Morton is aged 38. and as a change from blowing an instrument likes to play the piano accordian.

There's only the one Morton/Byers marriage 1900-1939, so can't be a coincidence.

This must be Roy's death, with DOB a year out:

Roy Gordon Morton
in the England & Wales, Civil Registration Death Index, 1916-2007
Name: Roy Gordon Morton
Death Age: 59
Birth Date: 14 Dec 1919
Registration Date: Jul 1979
[Aug 1979]
[Sep 1979]
Registration Quarter: Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration district: Stoke on Trent
Inferred County: Staffordshire
Volume: 30

I don't see him in 1939.

Marian

Marian Report 18 May 2019 18:26

Hello, as a reminder, Roy Gordon Morton born Dec q 1918 at Chapel en le Frith (Derbyshire) maiden name Byers and a Thomas, March q 1920 maiden name Byers. This would make Louisa 45 ish when Thomas was born. Now wondering if names are just a coincidence. Thanks for the above.

Unfortunately, I don't have the marriage certificate. I don't know anything about him. I am now assuming he stayed in Canada and Louisa probably went back there after her visit home.

Sorry, I should have noted that when I posted.

Maddie posted 1939 for Arthur E Morton, widowed, gas clerk, born August 1873 .

[ There's no child Arthur with that man in 1939 - did you mean that there was, Maddie ? ]

His birth:

Births Sep 1873 (>99%)
Morton Arthur Ernest Halifax 9a 480

So this looks like him in 1911 :

in the 1911 England Census
Name: Arthur Ernest Morton
Age in 1911: 37
Estimated birth year: abt 1874
Relation to Head: Son
Gender: Male
Birth Place: Halifax, Yorkshire, England <<<<<<<<<<
Civil Parish: Hunslet
County/Island: Yorkshire-West Riding
Country: England
Street address: 42 Moor Croscent Hunslet Leeds
Marital status: Single
Occupation: Mechanical Draughtsman
Registration district: Hunslet
Registration District Number: 501
Sub-registration district: Hunslet
ED, institution, or vessel: 27
Piece: 27144
Household Members:
Name Age
Emily Morton 58
Arthur Ernest Morton 37

Therefore not Louisa's husband, who is in Canada in 1911.

Do you have Louisa's marriage cert to see what her husband's father's name was - to try to track down her husband's birth ? Or do you know his birth date?

Marian

Thanks Argyl, bit of a long shot that it would be a relative. I don't have the above in my tree anywhere.
