Samantha .............

please be very careful about posting information on people born later than 100 years ago.

They could still be alive, and may not want their names spread over the internet ............... Google does pick up information on here very quickly at times, and once it is out there it cannot be removed.

That's why I dd not post that birth

Samantha .....

there looks to be be one child of the Frank Ebdon/Gladys Doble marriage, born 1936

People born in 1935 could well be alive, so will not post it on here, you can find it.

Use the Freebmd site!!!!!!!!!!!

https://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

Just follow the instructions, entering father's surname and mother's surname.

I used date range Mar 1935 to Dec 1970

Only the one birth appeared .......... but do we know if they stayed in the UK???????

Unfortunately not Samantha - we have a large gap at the moment between the 1911 census and the 1939 index. We have to wait a few more years until the 1921 census is opened up :-(

Some of us might not last that long so it is very frustrating................................ ;-)

Thank you for this greyghost, very interesting.
Can I ask how/where you find this information?
We wouldn't know where she was working in 1918 yet would we?

If this is Bessie, then she was a servant in the household of Fanny Newman who is head of the house with Charlotte Rowe and Blanch Podeinhorne visiting. Fanny is described as a Gentlewoman with 2 servants - Bessie and Dora Seuge.

1911 Census For England & Wales
6 Queen's Crescent York Road Exeter, Exeter, Devon, England

First name(s) Last name Relationship Marital status Sex Age Birth year Occupation Birth place
Fanny Maria Newman Head Widow Female 62 1849 Gentlewoman Plymouth
Charlotte Elizabeth Rowe Visitor Spinster Female 72 1839 Gentlewoman Plymstock
Blanch Mary Podeinhorne Visitor Married Female 48 1863 None Plymstock
Dora Elizabeth Seuge Servant Single Female 22 1889 - Barnstaple
Bessie Ebden Servant Single Female 16 1895 Domestic Servant Exeter

At age 16 she could have been working for a few years, but probably impossible to tell where and for how long.

Good evening everyone

Dea
I have re-read your post ref Poltimore House/Manor and now see that you had stated at the bottom that Bessie was not one of the 16 sevants, sorry.

Do we know if there is a way of finding out where Bessie was a servant at?

Well, it just shows how important (NOT), the woman's roll was in those days - I have just found Baron Poltimore's wife of 29 years - Margaret Harriet listed halfway down - after the Baron, his brother, a 'male' visitor and 4 'male' servants. She 'is' at the top of the female servants but I have seen this sort of thing many times and always find it very strange.
