If you could get hold of a copy of the original parish register for Edward's marriage to Catherine Hows you could then compare Edwards signature to a signature on one of his paintings?? |

Just to keep info here, I looked again at the image for 1841/51 and pretty sure it says engraver not engineer . |

Well! That certainly shows one auction house appears to know the artist's full name. Another piece of an emerging jigsaw. Thanks for your forensics. I am most impressed. Now I need to start colouring the CV, to create a real character, whose paintings reflect not only his interests but also his personal situation. |

It doesn't help a lot re Edward, but this is possibly the marriage of the parents, noting that Edward's daughter Catherine used middle name Spencer |

This is most helpful to my search. He/she has paintings at the Wellcome Library, the British Museum, London Metropolitan Archives, Camden Local Studies and Archives and Islington Local History Centre. None of them has been able to help, nor has Camden History Society, an active local group. |

I might suggest this one? The birth year is way out, but it's possible he started young OR that the dates online for his work are out by a few years. Listed here as "Artist and professor of drawing" |
