Think I'll try checking whether there are any more McMullan births with those parents in the same parish

Rather than start a new thread, I am trying to establish whether a baptism found on Ancestry could be my Hugh McMullan, who named his father as Patrick when he married Catherine McFarland.

I would be grateful for another pair of eyes on this baptism (from Catholic parish registers) to see if anyone can make out the sponsors names please?

I've found John and wife Margaret on the 1901 census, looks like both were born c1831, but she is recorded as Gribbon (maybe her maiden name?). Living with them was son Hugh & his wife Mary Ann & their children including Mary Jane. Margaret is a widow (with son Hugh & family) on the 1911 census as McFarland but age is out states 88 rather than 80. Looks like she died in 1917.

Like you I can't find births for Hugh or Catherine to confirm mmn, nor can I find a marriage for John and Margaret.

Hi all, your support is much appreciated.

Had a good look at this yesterday afternoon, and came to the conclusion we ain't going to prove anything, and considering they were my great aunt/uncle rather than a direct ancestor does it really matter? So please don't waste more time on this.

My conclusions are to discount the US census posted, it doesn't tie in with other info we have. The Irish census posted I believe are correct. The travel info posted by AustinQ also looks possible, but although Mary's age is spot on (9 months) her mothers isn't as according to Maddie she was 22. Additionally there were two other births on GRONI which could be that child.

I think I'll focus on trying to locate Catherine and Hugh's ancestry as my direct line for now, they were my great grandparents. I think I've a lead on Hugh, if he was christened in 1858 as he had named his father as Patrick on his marriage. Haven't anything so far on Catherine McFarland who named her father as John.

Sorry, not posted for a few days. Hubby is getting over it, it was a shock and when you're getting older it hits you harder. Still got a couple of lovely black eyes and swollen face, but no serious damage - it could have been worse, they could have been carrying knives like so many seem to do these days.

I'll be back on the research soon, though I'll worry more now if he goes back to doing the odd late shift.

Sorry I haven't abandoned this post but my OH was assaulted and robbed early hours of Tuesday morning so we are trying to deal with this at the moment. Once I get chance I'll look at the responses in more detail.
